Alexander Obmanov

As a schoolboy Alexander steps onto the stage — he attends acting classes, tries early roles, and keeps looking toward Moscow and cinema. After graduation he enters the full-time program at VGIIK. Studies flow easily: one role follows another; the diploma and a ticket to the capital arrive the same day.

Moscow greets him as both trial and chance. The first film roles confirm the path is right. In 2018 he enters Herman Sidakov’s School of Drama and is accepted immediately, without questions. At the graduation showcase he does not perform theatre scenes; instead, four films featuring him are screened. The choice is obvious — the screen, not the stage.

In the same year he writes the feature script “URMA” while also working on a Russian-British short film where he is both writer and lead. Thus begins his double path — actor and author.

Then events gain momentum.

• 2021 — receives a grant for screenwriting training with Hollywood master Paul Brown (The X-Files) and reworks URMA into a Netflix-format series. The project draws attention in the West.
• 2021 — plays the lead in an international film that makes the Golden Globes long list.
• 2022 — completes courses at GITIS and becomes a Top-10 finalist of KIT’s nationwide screenwriting competition with “Build an Empire from Scratch”.
• 2023 — wins a Ministry of Culture competition and becomes head writer of the large-scale project “Treasure Island”.
• 2024 — plays Andrey Kulakov in the feature “Commander”, receiving a letter of commendation from a top security official.

…And after that — silence.

He switches off his phone, closing the previous chapter. He steps away from the stream of mass roles to focus on what matters — quality and the search for stories that resonate deeper and louder. From now on his path is about choice, not quantity — a step toward the big game. A question hangs in the air:
What will Alexander’s next on-screen work be?
